Lewis, A young totally blind musician and musical instrument maker is attempting to raise £5700 to raise funds for specially adapted equipment to allow him to make his instruments. He was born severely visually impaired but lost his sight in 2000 and became totally blind after being the victim of a vicious attack by school bullies. He put up a long fight to adjust to life as a blind student and from there moved to a school which welcomed him with open arms for his final year of GCSE's. After passing all GCSE's with flying colours, he was offered a place at a music college to study classical music and at the same time take on training as a musical instrument maker dedicating his time to making wooden flutes, low whistles and uilleann pipes. After leaving college with a BMUS in classical music, he carried on with what he cared about most and enjoyed.

Sadly in 2008, after a long battle to raise funds needed for access technology, including a speaking computer, braille display, braille embosser, speaking phone and other equipment which is a life line for him, he was unable to get any form of funding what so ever. So he had to sell everything he had including all his tools and equipment.

Lewis put up a fight after this happened and sought support from manufacturers of tools and equipment as well as involvement from local builders merchants. Over 40 companies supported him with donations of equipment and tooling.

Lewis was still struggling to get the equipment needed for making his instruments and has sought help through the local community with support including rhyl Lyons club and many others besides.

The equipment needed is being made and configured by a company based in Surrey who are building a specially adapted engineering lathe and milling machine which rely on measurement output to a computer with screen reader to speak out measurements and functions. After a battle to get things going, Peter Large is supporting Lewis with a charity auction.

Lewis is trying to raise £5700 for this equipment. He has approached many people and companies willing to donate prizes for the auction and you will see the results...

You're guaranteed a great night and with something for everyone, you're bound to come out smiling.
